Remember the last time you listened to Sigur Ros? Remember how the Icelandic quartet managed to evoke a strong emotion [sadness & depression mostly] on ( ) when Jonssi was warbling away in some undecipherable foreign language? Remember Explosions in the Sky? The Texan band that creates emotive music without even uttering a single word? Because now it is apparent that you can pour out your emotion on music without the help of words; and this goes out to Canterbury, UK's latest export: Yndi Halda. Pronounced as /yin-dee hal-dar/, this instrumental experimental post rock band has just released a new EP. They make cinematic music comparable to the likes of Sigur Ros, Explosion in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
I have here the first track off the EP and it is called "Dash and Blast". You might want to take some time to enjoy this song because it is fourteen minutes and fifty five seconds [14:55] long. Unlike Graboids who build the music slowly like building a life-size KLCC with blocks of Lego, Yndi Halda just strums the emotional chord right from the beginning up till the end. It's just simply lovely. Majestic. This is the kind of music that you listen to while you're riding the KTM Komuter from Rawang to Seremban at 6 p.m., looking out of the window, alone, contemplating life.
Brilliant, brilliant stuff I tell you. Explosions in the Sky has finally got their fourth album "All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone" released on the 20th of February. I have one song from the album; I'll post it here later. In the meantime, enjoy Yndi Halda - my new favorite Mogwai.
