Seriously people, this is math rock. There were moments when Polvo reminds me of Maharajah Commission (local band); chaotic noise, dense sonic texture, intricately layered guitars, and unconventional song structure.
Polvo is among host of bands that blooms in the art rock/indie rock scene post Sonic Youth and Slint. The song Tragic Carpet Ride was taken from their second EP which was released in 1994 on Merge. It was released after the band's classic second LP, Today's Active Lifestyle, released in 1993 also on Merge. Sadly though, after the release of their fourth LP entitled Shapes, they disbanded, considering that Shapes isn't all that too bad an effort.
Last week I saw Sonic Youth's Destroyed Room at KLCC's Tower Rocords. Am a huge fan of Sonic Youth, tempted to buy the CD but have no money. Damn. Well, I'm done for this week. Have a nice weekend!
