Iceland has got to be one of the most geographically amazing country in the world. Everytime I search for Iceland's picture and all I get is this spectacular, breathtaking view. My girlfriend loves Switzerland, probably because of the snow-capped mountains and ranges, and yeah it's a very beautiful country, but Iceland takes the cake for being simply majestic. Speaking of which, my girlfriend thinks (generally) Icelandic people are eccentric. Well, yeah, I used to think that way too after having my first experience with Bjork. Then there is this 'to laugh or not to laugh' comic book by an Icelandic cartoonist where my girlfriend and I came upon on a recent trip to Borders. But Sigur Ros were nothing short of being magical. And now there is another two new (and not-so-new) Iceland's export, Lovisa Elisabet a.k.a Lay Low and Bardi Johannsson a.k.a Bang Gang.
According to last.fm, "Lay Low is the first and only Icelandic MySpace prodigy". She posted two of her solo bedroom recordings in February 2006 and a month later, she had her big break.
This is more like Tracy Chapman than Bjork. It's very country-ish.
Bang Gang's debut album Something Wrong were released way back in 2003 and sadly I only got to discover this guy last month. I've seen the video clip to the song Find What You Get at YouTube and I suggest you better do the same. Eccentric Icelandic? I think I'll second that motion.
Okay, I've done two posts for today. Now, to finish my articles...
Yesterday's my girlfriend's birthday. I only get to see her for roughly around two hours, ate some sushi, gave her my homemade present (the pennyless boyfriend hahaha!), then she had to leave for another occasion cum celebration (of some sort) later that evening. And today's her mom's birthday and I have a phone call to make.
Now, I have earlier on promised to write on silverchair's new album Young Modern.
Well, there it is.
