I'm having trouble with posting at pembacaan-hafeez.blogspot.com. I don't know what caused it but it is Google's fault. I have been trying for the past three to four days and they keep on cutting off the connection. To Google, or Gmail, or Blogger; fuck you.
Ah, then, on the flipside of things, I have been hooked on OAG's new album OrAnG. Not that the album is any good but the song "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim" is something. Yeah I've read one review in the NST if I'm not mistaken and the reviewer said that this album sounds a lot more experimental. One thing that I realized about OrAnG is that the melody, like those you can find in abundance in Opera Radhi-o-friendly, is missing, and what you get instead are just distorted guitar noise improvizations, unusual time signatures, and just plain noise. A lot of them. The first few moment of "Dayang Marikh Asthmara" is a delightful composition but then quickly swerves into neo-pop territory, which then kills the sweet melody. "Ikhlust"; plain noisy.
My favorite local indie band is still Couple. I got to listen to their first single "Mimpi Lagi" on wowfm (R.I.P.) and I fell immediately in love. I bought the first EP "Turning Melancholy to Magic" at the now history Music Exchange in Jalan Walter Grenier. A nice place with huge collection of used CDs and old vinyl records. The sound quality of the first EP is not at all impressive but the music was marvelous. The second EP, "Telegrams From the Heart", I bought them at Music Magic; a truly magical place where rare, imported, hard-to-get CDs are easily available/obtainable. And my all time favorite Couple song has got to be "Alright", the first track off "Telegrams".
A friend always complained to me saying I look all-the-time gloomy. Couple's music is the happy, fun, I'm-fine-thank-you type of music, although several of their songs deal with heartbreaks and cinta tak terbalas. Very drama swasta Melayu. But, ah, Couple? It's alright.
