Last Nite I Saw Force Vomit
Singapore 'otai' band, Force Vomit, came to KL and rocked the Laundry bar last night, and boy (and girl), wasn't I delighted. Although this band has been around since the Middle Ages (from the 90's to be precise), this band is a new acquisition for me, having listened to their songs for the first time last month, on a trip to someone's birthday party, in somebody's car who my friend has described as being very 'hot'. But it was 'love at the first listen'. They play surf-punk-pop yeh yeh mix of sound and it is damn good. The other main act for last night was Meet Uncle Hussain - but the only reason I went to that gig was Force Vomit. Too bad the merchandise counter didn't sell any Force Vomit's CD but it was there then that I found out about Explosions in the Sky's concert in Malaysia this coming 19 February. This has got to be one of those 'rare' one-off performance-cum-appearance for a largely unknown act in Malaysia, like that relatively obscure Kreidler gig in one of the lecture hall of Universiti Malaya. Like the saying: once in a blue moon - well, this has got to be it. The only problem would be the ticket price - at RM110 pre-sale, that is a huge amount of money. But I'm adamant; I will be going. When else do you get the chance to see Explosions in the Sky performing live in Malaysia? I'm not really a huge fan of the band but I really really like their music. And this is unlike the Kreidler gig in UM that I went, back in 2003. Entry was free, the venue was a lecture hall (which is weird, but then it suits their music), and I had no freakin idea how this three-piece German band sounds like. All that I know is that Stereolab dig this band and I like Stereolab - so off I went to that once in a lifetime experience and when I came back, Kreidler is officially in my list of favorites. Too bad I didn't bring along a camera or anything like it because I'm a poor boy. But the Kreidler gig is a memory that I will treasure my whole life - and I think I'm about to add this upcoming Explosions concert to that as well. See you guys there!
